INTEGRATED REPORTING | BRAND COMMUNICATION | CREATIVE LEADERSHIP
Executive Snapshot
From 2010 to 2015, I worked with Wilderness Holdings across six reporting cycles and two agencies. The engagement began at Ince.motiv and continued through Purple Frog, maintaining creative continuity as the listed ecotourism group’s reporting matured.
How could reporting meet disclosure needs without losing a brand built on conservation, hospitality and place?
The Communication Challenge
Wilderness Holdings needed to explain a complex business to investors and stakeholders. Financial performance, governance and risk had to connect with conservation, community, culture and operations across Africa. Each report needed to show progress without allowing design to overpower the evidence.
My Role
At Ince.motiv, I was Creative Director and lead designer. At Purple Frog, I continued as Fractional Creative Director and lead designer.
Across both agencies, I worked closely with the internal reporting team. As brand strategist and creative lead, I translated content, reporting requirements and stakeholder priorities into narrative structure, information hierarchy and visual communication. I directed the design system and imagery.
The Communication Response
We developed a communication system that could mature over time instead of treating each report as a separate design exercise. Early cycles established navigation, hierarchy and consistency for a newly listed group. Later reports connected the business model, strategy, governance, risk and performance with the company’s 4Cs: Commerce, Conservation, Community and Culture.
The visual language evolved with the reporting. Expansive photography retained the premium ecotourism character. Maps, data graphics and signposting made information easier to navigate. Human stories linked corporate content to employees, communities and the environments in which the group operated.
Each cycle began with collaborative content review. Working with the internal team before design meant the structure and visuals supported the business narrative.
Business and Communication Value
The six-year programme maintained continuity across agencies while the reporting became more integrated and strategically mature. The reports served as investor communication, accountability tools and expressions of the corporate brand.
Reports produced during the engagement received external recognition, including an A+ GRI rating for 2012 and corporate reporting awards for 2013.
What This Project Demonstrates
